Join AME20 at the 2024 TRB Annual Meeting!
Women and Gender in Transportation Committee Meeting (and Group Photo!)
Monday, January 08 1:30 PM- 5:30 PM ET (will end early for our group photo -- see below)
Marriott Marquis, Independence Salon E (M4)
Come join us for our standing committee meeting! There will be opportunities to connect with old friends, meet new folks and make connections, and, of course, consume some chocolate! We will have a featured “Fireside Chat” (without the fireplace!) with Dr. Susan Handy, this year’s recipient of the Thomas B. Deen Distinguished Lectureship. Susan will give her perspective on the evolution of our committee and provide her insight looking forward at the future of gender in transportation research. In addition, we will get a preview of the forthcoming NCHRP Synthesis Report, Advancing Gender Equity in the DOT Workforce, with Dr. Stephanie Ivey. This project was the result of a research need submitted by AME20. We will also hear from Paul Sloan, from Transport Scotland, on how the Scottish government is implementing recommendations from the 2023 report on Women and Girls’ Safety on Public Transport. We will recognize award winners, learn about opportunities to get involved with AME20 initiatives, and so much more!
AME20 has an annual tradition of a group photo during the committee. This year, we wanted to make it extra special, particularly as we head into outreach and continued planning/preparations for the 7th International Conference on Women and Gender in Transportation to be held September 9-11, 2024 in Irvine, CA. Even if you can’t make it for the committee meeting, please join AME20 members and friends at the TRB letters in the grand lobby of the Convention Center for a group photo at 5:00 p.m.
Gendered Travel in a Non-Automobile World (AME20 Poster Session)
Tuesday, January 09 3:45 PM- 5:30 PM ET
Convention Center, Hall A
Check out this year’s outstanding set of posters! This session explores gender differences in travel patterns when using public transportation, ridesharing, and active transportation. Gender is increasingly important to account for in these modes, as it can impact project prioritization metrics that support gender equity and accessibility in transportation.

AME20 Activities After TRBAM
We know that many of you are not able to travel to DC for Annual Meeting for a variety of reasons. While we always enjoy the opportunity to engage and interact in person, we also wanted to provide a virtual option so that we can get together online, engage in committee activities, learn about new research in our field, etc. As such, we will be hosting two virtual events after TRB Annual Meeting. Details, dates, registration information to follow, but please keep an eye on your email for information on the following:
